UK Chart at Midweek: X-Factoring It On Top

No big shocker that the new X-Factor single - sung by this year's finalists - is on top at Midweek over in the UK.

Selling over 118,000 units so far, "You Are Not Alone" is blowing away the competition, mainly the Black Eyed Peas. The BEPs have sold around 37,000 of their latest, the current #1 UK single "Meet Me Halfway."

Jason DeRulo's former Billboard #1 hit "Whatcha Say" is at #3 on the UK chart, while Lady GaGa's most excellent "Bad Romance" is in the Top 10.

The UK Singles Chart, at Midweek:

1. "You Are Not Alone" / X-Factor Finalists (118.5k)
2. "Meet Me Halfway" / Black Eyed Peas (37.6k)
3. "Whatcha Say" / Jason DeRulo (33.9k)
4. "Happy" / Leona Lewis (22k)
5. "Everybody In Love" / JLS (19k)

Speaking of the lovely Leona Lewis, she has a commanding lead over JLS on the album chart. Echo has sold around 76,000 copies so far this week. Something to be "happy" about, no doubt!

That Girl Is Hot As Hell

Here's a couple of quick thoughts about Lady GaGa's new EP, The Fame Monster.

I loved "Monster," a track produced by RedOne, immediately. "Wanna talk to her, she's hot as hell" - chanted by I would assume RedOne himself, is catchy as hell too.

Another standout is "Telephone"- featuring Beyoncé. "I'm kinda bizzay, I'm kinda bizzay" will haunt your brain, if the "Monster" boy doesn't eat it first. Love that line, btw. "Telephone" is just as infectious as the "Ra ra ra ra ra" of the kickoff track "Bad Romance" - sure to be another Top 5 and a damn shame if not another global #1. While I do like the Beyoncé "Video Phone (Remix)" track, it just doesn't have the *umph* of "Telephone." As Robbie says, Team Telephone, all the way!

(Show Me Your) "Teeth" - with the funky horn and the big bass/drums - is another great track. Love the R&B feel with the backup singers, and yet it's still a dance track. It gets my feet and hands tapping every time. Of course, the subject matter, like many tracks (including "So Happy I Could Die") are unashamedly and purposefully risqué. In essence, GaGa is showing us her "teeth" - i.e. what she's all about, on this record.

The only track that I'm not feeling right now is "Speechless," but it's not bad. Just the change of pace is a bit abrupt and is very Scissor Sister-y (again that's not bad); it just stands out as very different from the other instantly dance-y tracks. Most likely, it's a grower.

Overall, I'm thrilled with the "The Fame Monster." It's been on repeat for like 3 days now. If I don't become a zombie or if my ipod manges not to explode in flames like the bed in the "Bad Romance" video, I may just get through this week unscathed!

It is a savvy business decision to go with an EP instead of just a standard reissue of The Fame. This is, in essence, GaGa's second album. And it's poised to catapult her even higher in the pop music firmament.

Rating: A+

UK Charts: Oh No They Didn't!

Well, I guess we should never, evah, underestimate the Black Eyed Peas.

In one fell swoop, the BEPs have dashed the hopes of a debut #1 for Leona Lewis' "Happy." Talk about messin' up my Midweek hopes to boot! LOL. Oh well, that's the way the chart goes. What's funny is that "Meet Me" was NOT #1 on Billboard and is on the way down. Imagine that!

Additionally, Sugababes 4.0 debut within the Top 10 (#8) with "About a Girl," which also was not expected at Midweek either.

The UK Singles Chart, Top 5:

1. "Meet Me Halfway" / Black Eyed Peas (3) [1 week]
2. "Happy" / Leona Lewis (New)
3. "Everybody in Love" / JLS (1)
4. "Fight For This Love" / Cheryl Cole (2)
5. "I Need You" / N-Dubz (New)

Britney's ode to threesomes, "3," also debuts in the Top 10 at #7.

Over on the album chart, JLS new self-titled CD overtook Robbie Williams to nab the #1 album in the super close race it ran this week. Robbie's Reality Killed the Video Star takes #2, giving him a pair of #2s - "Bodies" peaked at #2 on the Singles Chart and now the #2 album. Not bad at all, really.

New Music: Scarlette Fever

New music hits my inbox all the time. Most of it is a total "I'll pass," but every once in a while, something really good comes by.

One of the goodies is a band out of the UK called Scarlette Fever.

How would I describe their music? Atmospheric, dreamy, haunting, and very catchy.

The single "You Don't Know My Name" is very good. Using a sample from John Barry's Midnight Cowboy (Barry loves Scarlette Fever), "Name" sounds fantastic, and her new EP, Sticky Fingers, is out on US and UK iTunes now. Check out the samples either on her myspace or on iTunes.

Because you need to have this track, Scarlette has authorized a free download for Olga Loves Yuri readers. Click here to nab the Justin Wilkes remix of "You Don't Know My Name," guiltless and free.

What do you guys think? Good stuff, right?!

Bad Romancin', Lady GaGa Style

Lady GaGa's latest creation (best word for it) hit the airwaves over the last 24 hours. "Bad Romance" is so many things (arty, OVER THE TOP, creepy, a hot mess, LOL-tastic in parts, haute couture, etc).

I will just call it brilliant.

Girl is showing us why she's the hottest thing in pop right now. Hard to believe that 12 months ago practically no one knew who she was. That's not the case anymore. Love her or hate her, the GaGa has arrived, bitches.

UK Chart at Midweek: Leona Must Be 'Happy' Today!

Leona Lewis' newest single "Happy" from new album Echo is rocking the UK Singles Chart at Midweek.

Miss Lewis has sold nearly 50,000 units so far this week, easily dethroning the lads of JLS (they drop to #3 with about 30k sold).

An X-Factor performance breathes sales into new track "Meet Me Halfway" by the Black Eyed Peas. It's currently holding strong at #2 with about 44,000 units.

What's probably not funny at all for the new lineup of the Sugababes is that their newest single, with Jade Ewen, "About a Girl" has not debuted in the Top 5, but instead, it lands somewhere in the Top 10. Clearly folks are not thrilled by the controversy and drama surrounding Keisha Buchanan's departure. Well, it's not like the 'Babes were #1 all the time, but still...

The UK Singles Chart, Top 5 at Midweek:

1. "Happy" / Leona Lewis (49k)
2. "Meet Me Halfway" / Black Eyed Peas (43.6k)
3. "Everybody in Love" / JLS (29.8k)
4. "I Need You" / N-Dubz (25.4k)
5. "Fight For This Love" / Cheryl Cole (24.5k)

Over on the Album Chart, Robbie Williams' Reality Killed The Video Star rocks out the #1 spot with 85,000 sold to date. Not to mention, his Christmas single, "You Know Me" has already begun charting (Top 30) so this is a very good sign for Mr. Williams.
